This story is now two days old and to be honest I really don't care for the NBA (No Basketball Association) but this story has really started to irritate me to no end. NO, I'm not talking about Mark Cuban who thinks because he owns a team and has money believes he has an inherant right to say and act however he wants to whomever he wants (that is pathetic but doesn't really affect anyone but him and his team).
What I am most irritated about is the story of one Mr. Ernest Povetti who blames Glen "Big Baby" Davis for "Shoving" his son after Davis hits a game winning, seconds left shot, in the playoffs. Why am I so peeved? If you buy COURT SIDE seats--seats that are on, not next to or behind but ON the court--you have to expect that players are going to be very close (within inches) t0 you...THAT IS WHAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR..to be NEAR the players. Are you going to get mad if a player is diving for a ball and because of this natural thing called momentum and gravity doesn't allow them to stop and they fall on you (accidentally) and spill your beer and you get mustard from the hot dog your eating on your shirt? NO! You're going to help the player up and find the nearest TV camera and raise your arms above your head to get noticed. THAT IS WHAT YOU PAID FOR! In this case you have not seen the video here is is:
Look at the last 10 seconds of the video. You want to know responsibility? PAY ATTENTION! The kid looks away and walks towards the court! Now, you're going to say something like he's a 12 year old kid, blah blah blah. Listen, if an athlete-professional or amature or back yard pickup- has just scored the winning shot they have every right to be exuberant. Not only that but Davis was ON THE COURT! It's not like this is the "Malice in the Palace" where players jumped into the stands. The kid and player were on the court. The sideline, in case you didn't know, is still part of the court, it is where the players stand to inbound the ball and where the benches are. Since this "incident" Big Baby Davis has apologized (what for, I don't know) to the kid and is sending him a jersey. The kid now has a signed jersey and for the rest of his life will be on SportsCenter highlights. What do we, the sports loving public, get in return? SCREWED! Because of this NBA, NCAA, NFL, MLB (insert additional leagues) and teams will evaluate how close people can get to the action to protect themselves from lawsuits. There is an inherent risk that comes with when it comes to sports. You have objects and people performing at the highest caliber. Bats, sticks, balls, bodies all go flying around the playing surface and the areas that boarder them, that is the point of the sport and the reason you pay money to seem them. What's next, putting up a net that lines the Masters in case Tiger hooks a ball into the gallery 250 yards down the fairway? Mr. Povetti should be ashamed of himself! He paid for him and his son to be "as close to the action as possible" with court side seats. Well guess what you got it, your son was put himself INTO the action and now he wants a refund because he couldn't handle it? When sideline passes are revoked, court side seats are actually 10 feet behind the media table and backstage and locker room passes are no longer available blame Mr. Povetti.
Now, the most appropriate thing to do in this situation...lets all Boo THAT Guy 1, 2, 3....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Game 1 = AWESOME
So just before I attend Game 1 of the second round of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Pens and THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS, I came to the realization that this was my first every professional playoff game. Last year I was at the game that allowed the Caps to get INTO the playoffs but for as long as I've been a sports fan I haven't been to a professional playoff game. (I've been to a bunch of college playoff games). The Atmosphere in the Phone Booth (outside DC that is the Verizon Center, home of the Caps) was awesome. The sea of Red inside and outside the arena was AWESOME. It's great to have that kind of vibe in DC. As for the (Puck) Fittsburgh Fans, I hate the fact that they wear their Steelers jerseys to a hockey game. Cheer on your actual team. The game itself was yet another nail bitter with Crybaby Crosby scoring first but it was Simeon VarLAmov aka Varly aka the Boy Wonder that had the last laugh with this INCREDIBLE save:
I also want to the thank a few people. @vulcanmuse for her unfortunate circumstance of having to be in a wedding thus allowing me and my gf to attend the game. My awesome girlfriend for joining me and giving me AWESOME tickets earlier this season. The couple the row behind us in section 411 for allowing me to basically stand the entire 3rd period b/c my knee (due to the ACL surgery) just didn't want to fit in the little space between the seats. And to Mr. Ted Leonsis and the Washington Capitals for giving us something to cheer for and bringing pride back to DC Sports.
Game 2 tonight. LETS GO CAPS!

Speed Bump in the Journey
So I haven't been the best at updating this blog but I'm going to try to get better. Work has been very busy (which is a good thing in this current economy), I also have had a bit of a derailment from my 1001 list. If you scan the list you can see that a number of my things to accomplish involve physical fitness and moving around. Well my friends, in January I had a big set back. While playing on my flag football team I not only was taken out while going for a TD pass (sick play that has fooled every team) but as I dragged my feet perfectly the safety came over the top and took me out (not even going for the ball) he didn't only take me out (and get a pass interference penalty) but he took out my ACL as well. So less than two weeks ago I had reconstructive surgery on my right knee. I'm actually walking around (in a brace) but without crutches and back to coaching. This however, is a major setback as it will take me about 6 months to be able to be 100% fully active. More pictures and progress report to come. If you live in the Northern Virginia area however, and you have any need for an Orthopedic I HIGHLY reccomend Commonwealth Orthopedics. Dr. Madden is the MAN! In fact, I was told that he worked on Joe Theisman's (he's that good)

Bar Project Finished and Update
So a long while ago I finished my bar project which I was really happy about. I have been REALLY slow in getting the pictures up. Also, as I recently started getting on top of some of the physical aspects of my goals I have a major setback. This past weekend I tore a ligament in my knee. Don't know if it is a full or partial tear but there was a significant amount of blood that was drained from my knee today. MRI to come. We'll see how things progress. In the meantime, take a look at the before/after pictures of the bar.

Bar Project and Finances
So the bar conversion project is taking just a bit more time than I first expected. It has been sanded, painted, new hinges and knobs, mirrors cut (yes I learned how to cut glass/mirrors) and then...So cutting mirrors isn't easy, just in case you want to do a little home remolding that's a little tid bit for you..it's hard and frustrating. But I finally figured out how to do it! The bar was driven to the new apartment and I was putting the mirrors onto the back and guess what? Yup two mirrors fell off, luckily for me they didn't break. So I'm about 90% finished. Pictures will be up by the weekend as I have to re-sand a few areas where the glue from the fallen mirrors came down and still have to finish the two drawers with a fabric.
As you can see I completed #73. With my job I had to wait one (1) year to be able to setup my IRA and since that anniversary has come and gone and I started that up today. I'm also about to complete part of #75 by part I mean pay off my current bill. Keeping off..well we'll get there.
